"March Sunset"
60 x 60 cm/ 23.6 x 23.6 inches/ oil on canvas/ 2025

This plein air painting was created on the shore of the Black Sea in Saint Vlas, Bulgaria, during the last golden hour of March. The warm, gentle light of the sunset inspired me to capture the moment directly on canvas. The peaceful sea, the vivid sky, and the ever-present seagulls – my constant companions – filled the air with their melodic chatter, making the painting process feel alive and joyful.

Saint Vlas, once a quiet seasonal town, has changed in recent years. With the influx of Ukrainian refugees fleeing war and destruction, the town has grown and now welcomes people year-round. Many have lost their homes in Ukraine and seek peace and stability here by the sea.

The town is charming, nestled between the hills and the sea, with nearby Nessebar – one of Bulgaria's historical gems – adding even more beauty to the region. Through this painting, I wanted to preserve the warmth, light, and quiet hope of that March evening – a symbol of resilience and the healing power of nature.
